welcome & what to expect for your lifestyle session

Hi mama,

I’m so honored to capture this beautiful new chapter for your family — right where life happens most: home. These sessions are calm, baby-led, and all about documenting the quiet, meaningful moments of your first days together.

No need to leave the house or worry about perfection — your home, your people, and all the baby cuddles are all we need.

This page will help you prepare for your session and know exactly what to expect, so you can relax and focus on what matters most.

what to expect

In-home newborn sessions are calm, flexible, and completely baby-led. There’s no strict schedule — we’ll move at your family’s pace, allowing time for feeding, changing, soothing, or simply taking a breath together.

Most sessions last around 60–90 minutes giving us plenty of time for feeding breaks, outfit changes, and sibling snuggles.

When I arrive, I’ll take a quick walk through your space, and find the best light — usually in the living room, nursery, or primary bedroom. From there, we’ll move at your baby’s pace and capture the story as it unfolds.

Every session unfolds differently, and that’s what makes each one so meaningful.

sessions typically include:

  • Baby alone in bassinet or crib (typically swaddled)

  • Baby cuddled in your arms or resting on your chest

  • A quiet feeding or rocking moment in the nursery

  • Siblings meeting or holding the baby (if present)

  • Reading a favorite book together as a family

  • A cozy bath in the kitchen sink or baby tub (if desired)

  • The tiny details — fingers, toes, and fuzzy hair

  • Quiet moments of you bonding with baby

when can I expect to receive my photos?

Within 1-2 weeks, you will receive a gallery of all hi-res digital images. You will then have access to purchase premium-quality print products ranging from standard prints to baby announcements and fine art albums.

what to wear

Keep it simple, soft, and comfortable — clothing that feels like home.

My recommendations:

  • Neutral or earthy tones: cream, beige, taupe, muted blues, or warm pastels

  • Texture adds warmth — think linen, muslin, or knits

  • Coordinate without matching

  • Bare feet always photograph beautifully indoors

  • Avoid loud patterns, logos, or bright colors

For baby: a plain onesie, swaddle, or diaper with a cozy blanket is perfect.

Need help deciding? I’m happy to review outfit options and offer styling guidance.

preparing your home

Please don’t stress about cleaning — you just had a baby!
We’ll use the spaces that feel the most lived-in and filled with light.

Quick prep tips:

  • Open blinds and curtains to let in natural light (if you run out of time, no worries! I can do this when I arrive)

  • Tidy the areas we’ll use (living room, bedroom, nursery)

  • Clear surfaces like nightstands or dressers of clutter

  • Set out meaningful items: baby blanket, name sign, family heirloom

  • Warm the house slightly so baby stays cozy during swaddle-free moments

lifestyle FAQs

  • Absolutely — they’re part of your family story and always welcome.

  • For lifestyle photos, comfort is key. Choose soft, neutral colors like cream, oatmeal, taupe, or muted earth tones — these photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection. Pieces with texture (like waffle-knit robes, linen, or cozy sweaters) can add subtle depth without being distracting. Think relaxed and easy: a robe, button-up, or loungewear you feel good in. Partners can keep it simple with a solid tee or henley and joggers. Baby doesn’t need much — a swaddle, plain onesie, or even just a diaper and blanket is perfect for capturing those raw, real first moments.

  • Absolutely not! Plenty of sessions I do are baby-only sessions. This is totally up to you to decide if you'd like to be involved in the session or if you'd rather just rest and recover. Either way is totally fine!

  • I don’t bring traditional props, my lifestyle sessions are primarily natural and unposed, but I can suggest wraps or blankets that fit a natural, timeless look.

  • Not in the traditional sense! I’ll gently guide you but never over-pose. I want this to feel easy and honest — like you’re just soaking it all in.

  • Yes! Bath time makes for sweet, natural images — especially in the kitchen sink or baby tub.

  • We’ll still shoot indoors with available light. If it’s especially dark, we can adjust our session time for the best window light.

a final note

Your job is simply to rest and enjoy these first days with your new baby. I’ll take care of the rest. If you have any last-minute questions or updates, don’t hesitate to text or email me — I’m here for you every step of the way.

See you soon,
Carlie
